It was just a normal evening out after work for Gillian “Jill” Meagher. The date was September 22, 2012, and she was walking home from a night out at a pub in Brunswick, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The 29-year-old Irish-born beauty never made it home to her husband, Tom.

Jill was born in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland. Her family relocated to Australia after her father got a job in Perth but returned to Ireland in 1996 when she was fourteen years old. She finished school in Drogheda and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree from University College in Dublin. Soon, she began working for RTÉ, the Irish national broadcaster.

In 2008, she married Tom Meagher and the couple relocated to Australia in 2009. There, Jill began working for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) as a unit coordinator.
